Meeting Notes: 3/2

At our show we are going to be doing something special for George. He is a great guy and deserves some recognition.

Medieval Times: The trip is planned for Friday April 2nd. The cost is 36.95 if we get more then 15 people to go. Sign-up will be next week and the money will be due.

Ad money is due March, 16, NO EXCEPTIONS!

Craig from student activities is having a meeting and really pushing for us because we have come so far as a team. GO US!

We have a very good chance of making it to regionals!!! The points are really close:

SHU- 173
Fairfield- 167
Yale- 165

We need to kick into high gear and start kicking ass!! Its going to come down to the wire, so we need to try as hard as we possibly can!

Everyone did a great job at the show! Congrats to those of you who did well in your class(es). Hopefully I will be able to post individual results later.

A special conrats to everyone who showed for the first time! You guys were awesome!

We came in fourth overall. Fairfield came in First, Yale was 2nd and Sacred Heart was 3rd.

Also, lets here it for everyone who has qualified for Regoinals: Tami, Danielle, and Lauren!!! Hopefully we will have more people as the season progresses!

Meeting Notes: 2/9/04

The money for the hotel was due at the meeting, if you haven't paid you aren't going to be able to stay at the hotel. Remember to bring money for food!
The van for the hotel is leaving from the lot behind Hillwood at 2:30pm, don't be late!
Everyone must be at the show no later then 8:00am, that includes everyone who is not staying at the hotel.

Please have the money for the hotel for the Yale Show in by next week.

Meeting Notes: 2/3/03

The Jewelry Sale is sill scheduled for Thursday the 5th and Wednesday the 11th. We will also be selling the Jewelry at the Bachelor Bid. If you can sit at a table contact Tami or Danielle.

For the Tri-Host Show everyone who is staying at the hotel needs to bring $30 for the room by next week.

Dues are going to be due in 2 Weeks. They are the same as last semester; $100 for old member and $150 for new members.

We all need to start fundraising money for our program. The goal for everyone is at least $75, but please don't stop there! *Remind everyone that donations are tax write-offs.

*All the extra money we raise can be used to do something fun!*

Meeting Notes: 1/20/04

WELCOME BACK EVERYONE!!!!!!

Last Semester we forgot to congratulate Oshira for having the most points and winning the visa gift card!!! YEA!

The new member meeting is next week, everyone is welcome to come.

Dues are going to be the same as last semester, $100.

We are scratching the idea of a movie night because of the cost and instead we are doing a Karaoke night!

On February 5 and 11, a Wednesday and Thursday, we need people to sit at a table in Hillwood because we are trying to sell the jewelry from last semester. It will be from 11-2 on both days.

Since we have a lot of stuff left over from the Garage Sale we had last semester we are planning to have another. We want it to be from 8-3 on both April 17 and 18.

On a good note, all clubs that are considered a sport are going to be moved over to the Pratt Center along with their funds! We are not really sure what else this entails but stay tuned for more exciting details!!

***The Swim Team will be having two home meets this weekend on Saturday and Sunday at 1:00pm***

Just a reminder our team is currently in 3rd place, with 116 points. Stony brook is in 1st with 141 pts and Sacred Heart is in 2nd with 127 pts. HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Hope everyone has a wonderful break and a very merry Christmas a great Haunakka, Kwanzza, or any other holiday you may celebrate, AND.....an awesome New Year!!!

For those of you who didnt hear yet we did a terrific job fundraising Tupperware! We fufilled the school requirement for the semester and then some. We raised approximately $3,000 which gives our team $1,500! This has been our most successful fundraiser to date!! (well as far as I know, from the past 3 years!) GREAT JOB EVERYONE! You should all be very proud!!

Stay posted for next semesters show schedule and other events. We will let everyone know as soon as we do.

I do not go this way. Meeting Notes: 12/2

Last Week's meeting was cancelled

Tupperware: was DUE at the meeting, there will be penalties for those of you who didn't raise the required amount.

Our Show: The coaches will be looking at Krista's barn on Saturday. If they choose to have it there we will actually make a profit at out show.

Tacking and Grooming Lesson is Thursday at 5:30pm. Those of you who have to be there, be there. You know who you are! :}

We discussed the concerns that were recently raised about the team. If anyone has any problems please contact one of the officers, instead of posting it on the website. This way something can be done about your concern instead of people just venting.

There are 7 shows next semester, two of them are in Westbrook, CT. Everyone will need approximately 30 dollars for each show for a hotel room. I will post the dates soon.

Our captains have been working their butts off trying to get Varsity status for our team. At the meeting it was asked if everyone was interested in this or had any comments about it. If you do please feel free to email any of the officers or post it on the web site. We want yous guy's opinions about this!!!!!!!

Meghan K is having a dance recital this weekend at the little theater. It will be on Friday at 8pm, Sat and Sun at 3pm and 8pm. If you are interested in going please let her know so she can reserve tickets.

Rachel came up with the GREAT idea of us all going to Medieval Times to eat and watch the show. We will be discussing it further at our next meeting, which will be our last meeting of the semester.

Meeting Notes: 11/18

Movie Night: This will be cancelled again due to the school being monopolized by different corporations(Which is bull shit)

Tupperware: IS DUE DECEMBER 2nd NO IF, ANDS, OR BUTS!!!!!!!!!!

Club Training: Before each semester the captains and other officers will have to attend club training so we can learn how to run a club. It will be held on January 18th. Those of you who are officers please try to make it also anyone who plans to run for a position in the future is welcome to come.

Fundraising Elections: Krista has dropped out so Stephanie P. Is our new fundraising chair, CONGRATULATIONS!

Tacking and Grooming Lesson: This is still scheduled for Thursday, December 4, at 2:30. Everyone who is suppose to be there you know who you are, so show up! As always everyone else is invited to attend.

Jackets, Sweat Shirts and Pants: Al the money for them was due at this meeting

We are considering doing a grab bag for the holidays and we will be discussing this at the next meeting. So bring your ideas.

Jen's Thursday lesson is cancelled.

*The Caribbean Culture Club will be hosting a dinner/party in Hillwood this Thursday at 7:00. The cost is $10, this also buys you a raffle ticket to win 2 tickets on AirJamaica to any of their destinations.

Meeting Notes: 11/11

Fairfield Show: We came in third overall, everyone did a great job! It was great that everyone stood outside to support the team in though it was freezing! On a bad note at the show our area was a mess, we cant leave or garbage around for others to pick up!!! We don't want the other teams to have a bad impression of us, please start acting like adults and taking responsibility for yourself and your stuff. We all need to thank Sue for cleaning up.

Fundraising Chair: Our fundraising chair will be leaving to study abroad for the Spring. Our nominees are Stephanie Pace and Krista Archer.

Senior Advisor(at lessons): Everyone has to respect and listen to the senior advisors. They are their to make sure things get done correctly. Remember they aren't there because they want to they are there to help the team.

Tacking and Grooming Lesson: This is a make up for those who missed the first ones. It will be held on Thursday, December 4th at 5:30pm. Stephs P and H, Rachel S, Abi and Liz need to attend.

Presidents Meeting: This is on November 12th Oshira and Danielle will be attending.

Tupperware Sale: If you haven't started you need to start like yesterday! There will be no exceptions, everyone must raise at least $100 and they are due on December 2nd.

Movie Night: We will be having a movie night on Tuesday, November 25th at 9:00pm. We will be showing Charlie Brown Thanksgiving before the main movie, which will be Home for the Holidays.

Jackets: The money for jackets is due on Tuesday, November 18 (next meeting). For prices see last weeks meeting notes.

Sweatshirts/pants: Krista will be putting one more order in so if you want them you better have contacted her before you left the meeting. If not I think you are out of luck. Everyone needs to thank her also, she has done a wonderful job in putting this together.

City Trip: We discussed taking a trip as friends into the city to see a play and eat and have fun together. This is not a team activity its just an outing with friends. Please do not feel obligated to go.

Ski Trip: We decided to go on the ski trip during the weekend of January 31st. The cost is around $200 for a double occupancy and $150 for a quad.

Loomings: If anyone as any photos from out shows or lessons and would like to have them published, let me (Liz) know and I can get you in touch with the editor of Loomings.

Senior advisor: We decided to have a committee, so there was no election.

Bridgett's lesson must arrive 45 minutes prior to the lesson starting, this will ensure that all lessons start on time!

There will be NO SHARING CLOTHES at the shows, if you do you have to clean them and hand them back in a timely fashion!

Our Horse Show: Hopefully we will be having one on March 7th

We will be having a meeting with Vinn Salamone on Nov. 13th to discuss becoming Varsity or a club sport.

Swim Meet

The Twins, Abi and the C.W. Post Swim Team will be competing in a Swim Meet this Friday, the 31st at 6:30 in the Pratt Center on campus. Our Coaches and quite a few members will be attending to support them. If you have time it would be really cool for you to make an appearance because the Swim Team came to our last show to show thier support! Hope to see you there!!!!

Meeting Notes October 28, 2003

We did a great job at our horse show on the 26^th. We came in tied for 2^nd place with SHU. Congrats to everyone!!!

We had nominations for the position of Senior Advisor. Our running candidates are:

Kristina Josse: Kristina is an Alumni member who has been on the team since fall of 1997, and has held the position of Captain for two years.
LindsAy Lindenbaum: LindsAy has been with the team since Spring 2002. She is currently an undergraduate in her last semester of school. Last year she held the position of Secretary.
Vanessa Sander: Vanessa is an Alumni member who also has been with the team since Spring 2002. Last year she held the position of Treasurer.

At our next meeting we will have elections for this position. They will be presided over by our Coaches. The nominees will have short speeches prepared to explain to the team why they want the position, what they propose to do for the team, and why they should be elected.

Mrs. Jhonson, one of the founders of the IHSA and owner of Smoke Run Farm, passed away last week of heart failure. She was one of the leading ladies of the IHSA and she is the reason we are here today. Her funeral will be held November 15^th from 4-8 pm at the Bryant Funeral Home on Old Town Road.

Tuesday, November 4^th is Election day and there will be no classes. We are still having our weekly meeting because we have a horse show that Sunday.

Danielle and I were pretty upset that only a few members attended the MANDATORY tacking and grooming lesson last Friday, the 24^th. Where was everyone?????

We will be having yet another make up tacking and grooming lesson Friday, November 7^th at 5:30. If you have not attended the previous two you better be there, you know who you are..... and so do we!

Team sweat shirt and sweat pant orders and money were due. Speak to Krista about any concerns or problems about this.

We gave out packets for our Tupperware fundraiser. The minimum amount that every member must raise is $100.00. We do not think that this is unreasonable. This is our biggest fundraiser this semester, so everyone really needs to put thier all into it and raise as much as you possibly can. Please dont stop at just the requirement.

Look through the packet yourselves, they have some really cool stuff in there, ask your family, even aunts uncles and cousins, ask your friends, teachers, bring it to your jobs and classes, you can even go dorm to dorm or door to door. Anything you can do to sell it, sell it!!!!! Remember, make it sound good: This is a fundraiser for the Equestrian Team, the holidays are coming up...

If for some reason you have a problem with this contact Danielle or myself ASAP, do not wait untill the deadline. They are due back to us no later than Tuedsay, December 2nd at the meeting. NO EXCEPTIONS. We must give them back to Deborah the 3rd so that the orders can go through and we can have the Tupperware before the holiday break in time for the holidays. If you do not hand it back in time, tough luck you will not have your Tupperware in time for the holidays.

If you were not at the meeting and did not already get a packet please contact Danielle ASAP so you can get started.

The meeting with Dr. Coe-Perkins, the Associate Director of Student Activities went spectacuarly. She is all for helping us to become either a club/sport with separate requirements from the other clubs (Psychology club, SGA...) or for us to become Varsity. She also generously offered to have her budget pay for us to have an information packet made for us describing the team and what we do so that we be better promoted across campus. Within the next week we will be contacting Vinn Salamone, the Director of Student Athletics, to set up a meeting to discuss the possibility of becoming a Varsity Team.

Meeting Notes October 22, 2003

We fundraised $125.00 at Homecoming! This is the first event we have ever had where every member either attended, or got in touch with us!! Thank you! And our banner came out AMAZING, Great job everyone who helped make it!

Our Double Feature Movie Night will be Monday, October 27th from 9:30-12:30. We will be showing The Texas Chainsaw Massacare and Halloween, and we will sell concessions to fundraise $ for our budget! Dont forget to bring $ for admission - 1.00 for one movie, and 2.00 for both plus a bag of popcorn.

Stony Brook's horse show is this coming Sun. the 26th. Everyone must be there at 7:00am. Check your emails for directions, or look to the right of this blog, under events click on the view calander link and then click on the Stony Brook horse show directions are there too.

Daneille and I are in the works of organizing a Tupperware fundraising event in time for the holidays. We will have more information at the next meeting.

Next meeting there will be nominations for the Senior Advisor Chair.

Danielle, Jen, Bridgett, Oshira, Angelina and myself are going to meet with the Associate Provost this Thursday, the 23 to discuss our team and ways to become a Varsity team and NCAA recognized!!

Dont forget about the tacking and grooming lesson this Friday, the 24th at 5:30 at the NSEC on campus.

Meeting Notes October 14, 2003

Good job at the show!!! It was a cold rainy day, but the team support was amazing. We ended the day with 21 points, coming in 5th place as a team! For future shows make sure your show clothes are clean, they fit and if you need to borrow something try your bery best to make sure you are able to before the show.

Thank you everyone who came to the blood drive. We had 20% of our organization attend, which is what was asked of us.

We will be having a mandatory tacking and grooming lesson Friday the 24th at 5:30 at the NSEC (barn on campus). If you cannot attend you must call Danielle so you can make other arrangements.

We fundraised $312.85 at our garage sale!! Thanks to everyone who dontated items, who came, or contacted us.
Special thanks to:
Michele and Caroline for standing in the middle of the road and walking down to the town wearing sandwich signs, calling out to promote our sale!
Scott for painting his car up to promote our sale and driving all around town for hours!
The twins for taking the unsold stuff home to store in their apartment for our next garage sale!

For the future all checks must be made out to Long Island University.

The blood drive is October 9th. The school asked that we have 20% of our organization attend. A sign up sheet was passed around.

Our first show is this coming Sunday, October 12. Dress appropriately, bring rain gear, and be ready to kick some butt!

Meeting Notes September 23, 2003

Dues were due today. If you did not give your dues to Oshira, our Treasurer, you cannot ride untill do unless you have spoken to either Danielle or myself.

Next meeting I will have a complete, correct contact sheet to pass out.

The community service sign up sheet was passed around again. Sessions on Monday the 29th were canceled so if you signed up for that day and have not signed up for another one yet, please get in touch with Angelina ASAP.

Our first fundraising activity for the year will be a garage sale! We will be having it at Danielle's house. It will be on Saturday and Sunday October 4th and 5th from 7:00am to 4:00pm. Danielle will send out directions via email, and hand them out at our next meeting. Please donate anything you dont want anymore (go through your closets!) and ask any friends/family if they have anything too. Danielle's mom was very generous in offering her home so we could have it there, donating a lot of items for us to sell, and offering to place an advertisement in the paper for us. Thank you Ms. Reynolds!!!

Homecoming is October 18th. Every club and organization is required to set up a booth with a game. We will be having a jewerly sale again this year. Last year it was a successful fundraiser for us. As for a game we threw some ideas around like pin the tail on the donkey, horseshoes, or picture taking with a senic backdrop. We will discuss ideas again and decide upon one at our next meeting. If you have any ideas, please let us know.

If you have not filled out you IHSA individual membership form yet please do so and give it to Danielle, Jen, Bridget or myself. You must fill that out before our first show. The website is www.ihsainc.com

We are working on getting a room reserved for our weekly meetings to reduce the noise and distraction. We will still be meeting in Hillwood Commons upstairs by the couches untill further notice.

Meeting Notes September 16, 2003

It was amazing to look around and see so many people new faces and old. Welcome to the team new members!

Because so many people were interested in joining the team this year our budget could not possibly afford to pay for all lessons and shows. Unfortunately we had to vote upon tryouts versus dues. The votes were tallied and dues won by a large majority.

Dues for active undergraduate members are $150.00 for the first semester and $100.00 for every semester thereafter. The dues will be deposited into our budget to help cover lesson and show expenses.

We also voted on continuing our reward points incentive system. We will be doing so.

A community service sign up sheet was passed around. Every member must sign up for two sessions (hours) as per the school requirement. If you have not signed up yet you must get in touch with Angelina, our Community Service Officer.

I updated the Events for September and Tami has posted a slew of information on the calendar. This year's new officer's e-mails have also been posted.
Community Service with LIHRA starts September 2nd (Tuesday) there will also be Wednesday sessions this week due to Labor Day. After that, the schedule returns to normal Monday/Tuesday sessions. Just a reminer that the session times are:
4:40-5:40 PM
5:40-6:40 PM

The first meeting for returning members is on Septmeber 9th at 9PM, prospective new members have a meeting September 16th at 9PM. Meeting stake place in the upstairs lounge of Hillwood, if you need more information, please contact one of the co-captains.

Well hello everyone. I hope you are all having a great summer watching the rain fall. I don't have any official news, just little tidbits of crap that you might be interested in. Or not.

1. We got a new schoolie at our barn, his name is Smooch and he's wonderful. His trot makes your teeth chatter but his canter is like sitting on a cloud. He needs a little work because he's extremely weak in the hindquarters but he jumps crossrails and is all around very quiet and honest.

2. Some of the team has gotten horsey jobs for the summer. Danielle and I will be working at the NSEC camp and Lisa, Tami and Lindsay will be working at the camp at Smoke Run.

3. Paul sent me a load of pictures from our various parties and shows, I'll be posting them as soon as I get a chance. Unfortunately, he censored his "patty-cake" dare from the 80's party.

Maria Emailed us yesterday with the results of our SAAB hearing. We are allocated $25,000 for next year and we will also have the opportunity to request more money in January!!!! This is awesome. Last year we were allocated $12,000 and an extra $6,500 in January. We are going to start off the year with more than double what we started with last year. This is because of everyone's hard work and dedication to the team. Every community service each of you attended, every ticket you sold for an evening of giving, everyone who sat at tables we had and participated in the activities we hosted, every advertisement you sold for our show programs, every show you competed in and every show you came to to show your support, and every idea and suggestion you had to make this team better and excel contributed to this amount of money that we will have next year. This amazing achievement is due to every person on this team. Thank you for being a great team!!

As announced at Scotts awesome BBQ (thanks Scott, Mom & Dad!!) Danielle is the winner of the reward points for this semester. Congradulations Danielle! I want everyone to know that you did a great job this semester and the points were very, very close. We still have not found out the results of the SAAB hearing yet. I went down to student activities quite a few times but they are very busy there and they are holding ours off till the end so they can give us as money as possible. Craig will email Jenn and myself with the results when he gets them. They will be posted as soon as we find out.

Message From Jen

Our outcome at this Zone Horse Show was not what we had hoped for but that is not to be attributed to any lack of effort. Destiney rode very well and went into the ring with determination and a job to do and she came out with that job accomplished . Unfortunately our season ended a little earlier than we hoped and she did not qualify for the National Horse Show, but Destiney finished the season in the top position in our Region and was very competitive rider at Zones.

Destiney is a force to be reckoned with and will be back next year to not only take on the best of the best in our Region but to also go head to head with her sister, Stacey as well as, their teammates Tally and Lisa in the OPen Division. In my professional opinion, that is gonna be some pretty tough competition. Returning to compete in the Intermediate Division will be Danielle and Jordan . Coming back next year our Novice riders are Meghan and Scott and our WTC riders will be Tami, Lauren, Liz, Angelina, and Michele. To return next year and compete in the WT Division will be Lori, Nancy, Caroline and Oshira. Melissa will make her debut in the alumni division. We will also have a few members on the team now that will be making their showing debut's next year , Megan and Stephanie. I do anticipate we will have a few new members to add to this list next year , bring them on , I CAN"T WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR !!!

Congratulations to the Post Equestrian Team and to all it's members , your job this summer is to keep your legg muscles tight and your butts in the saddle and prepare yourselves to get in the ring and put up a fight to defend our Reserve Champion title and battle our way up to the top !

Both sessions for Community service on Monday the 14th are full, so if you havent signed up for a day yet that one is no good. Tuesdays are very empty.

Lessons with Jen end April 29th, so if you wish to continue taking lessons you must get in touch with Jen soon to make arrangements. She will make herself available at our barn untill June 24th because Camp starts on the 30th. She will be teaching at the Red Barn after Camp begins.

Lessons with Bridget end April 30th, if you wish to continue taking lessons you must get in touch with Bridget soon so she can set one time. She can teach at the barn up untill June 25th. She will make herself available somewhere else after Camp begins.

Unfortunately we will have to pay for lessons. They are $30.00 at our barn. I do not know yet how much they will be at other barns.

Our Coaches need to know who will be taking lessons past the 24th/25th so please get in touch with them soon! If you do not contact them we will assume that you will not be riding with us untill next school year. Thanks!!

MEETING NOTES APRIL 8, 2003

There was money due today...you know what it was for and you know why I can't say. Anyway, if you haven't given it, please contact Tami and Lisa.
(you know what I just realized? If you take the first letter of Tami's name and the Last letter of Lisa's you get something pretty humorous)

Reminder about the party: We will be celebrating Jen, Vanessa and Paul's birthday's at my apartment Saturday April 26th 6:30 PM till whenever. You were all invited via e-mail, if you haven't recieved the invite please send me an e-mail and I will give you all the information.
Also, Scott's parents are throwing us a part on May 9th. They'd like to know what we want to eat so um, think of some stuff.

If you will be going to Zones this weekend please contact Tami and LisA (hee hee) or Jen so they can figure out hotel accomodations. The school is actually putting us up this time so there is no fee for that.

Bridget's lessons are canceled for this Wednesday April 9th. She will be back next week.

Please e-mail Tami telling her when you will be showing up to community service. The place doesn't want to get over-crowded.
The CS already started and there are two sessions every Monday and Tuesday 4:30 and 5:30. The last day is April 29th.

Our last meeting is April 29th as well. Lessons will continue.

Nancy will be on WebRadio between 2 and 4pm Wednesday for a team update. Tune in to Channel 72 or the web radio link on the Post site.

On April 22nd, the Newman Club is having their annual fundraising talent show. The money from the show will help cut costs for the house building trip to Mexico for Esperanza International. Nancy will be dancing but of what discipline.....that's a mystery. If you want to find out, the show starts at 8pm either in the cinema or lecture hall.

Can I gush about Sunday's regionals even more please? I am so proud of everybody, this team. Although only a few qualified for regionals, we've come this far as a whole. I am so proud of all of you and all that we have accomplished.
I will be on this team till the day that I die, I truly think of all of you as family, as sisters and brothers. Even though U will not be able to make it to Zones, I will be there in spirit.

OUR SHOW

Good Job everyone! I am so, so proud to be a part of this team. We were awesome today and everyone was so helpful. (I'm sure you're all sleeping it off now). Even in the freezing weather and rain we all pulled together to show that the Post team is one to be reckoned with. First Place Team! =)

Congratulations to everyone that placed and even everyone who didn't. You guys got in that ring and gave it your all, you should all be proud of yourselves!

Angelina: It takes balls to stay in that ring when your horse is being a beast. I am SO proud of you that you stuck with it. You are amazing. You showed everyone that the Post team does not give up! ::hugs::

MEETING NOTESFROM MARCH 18 & 25 2003

Meeting notes, March 18th

The Long Island Riding For The Handicapped Community Service will start up again on April 7th. You are required to go at least 2 times, to either the 4:15 or the 5:15 session. For the newbies, what we do there is help handicapped children as well as a few adults, use horseback riding as their physical therapy. Some people will walk the horses slowly around the ring while others stand on either side of the rider to make sure they don't fall off. Some riders will need you to hold onto a special belt that they wear for safety. This is truly a rewarding experience so I encourage all of you to participate as much as possible.

On Saturday when we go to Smoke Run to clen the horses and tack you and a partner are assigned a horse and his/her tack. The groups go as follows:

Meeting notes, March 25th

At the beginning of the meeting, Tami and Lisa handed out point sheets which chronicals the points you have accumulated diong various team activities. The person recieving the most points will recieve a gift certificate. If you feel that there has been an error regarding your points please contact Tami and Lisa. Also, if anyone can come up with ideas for prizes post them here in the comments section or bring it up at a future meeting.

Tami passed around a sign-up sheet for Admitted Student Day. This is the day that new students can find out about the clubs and organizations at Post and we will have representatives from our team at a table ready to recruit new members. Those that missed karaoke night without good reason (and you know who you are) are required to go to this event. It's worth points for everyone so be there! It's being held in Hillwood Saturday April 12 from 12PM -3PM. We're going to work in shifts and they are as follows: 11:45-1PM, 12:45-2PM and 1:45-3PM. The sign-up sheet will go around at the next meeting.

FOR SUNDAY'S SHOW:
Please wear something that says Post on it. A T-Shirt, sweatshirt, the hats, etc. so that you can be easily identified.
If you weren't assigned a job, you are a horse holder which means that you need to get the horses as they come out of the ring and hold them until their next rider comes. Sometimes you may have to out them back in their stalls and untack them if they aren't being used until later in the day. Please be aware of the next time thet they're being used so that you can have them ready.

On Saturday you must be there at 1PM

Sunday you need to be there at 6AM
PLEASE PREPARE FOR RAIN. Bring umbrelleas, rain gear, warm clothes,extra socks etc.

On May 9th, there will be a barbeque at Scott's parent's house. We'll be giving them a thank you gift for being such great team parents.

There is also something in the works for a party at Melissa's house to celebrate Vanessa, Paul and Jen's birthdays. It will be 80's themed so come with crimped hair and anjoy music from the decade. I will announce the date soon.

Nancy will be on the Post web radio channel 72 at 2PM so you guys should listen in. You can also hear it on the school's website.

MEETING NOTES MARCH 4 2003

Before I get to the news, there are a few things that I'd like to clarify. If your opinion differs please feel free to leave comments.

Okay, what I want to start out with is this: It may seem that Lisa and Tami came off a bit harsh at the meeting when speaking about karaoke night, I thought so at first, but there's something you have to realize or at least think about. Imagine that you're that kid who's birthday party no one came to.
Yeah.
That's kind of what it feels like to them.
They really busted their asses putting this event together and reminded everyone over and over. Less than half the team shows up. Yeah, I know it was a Saturday night but there was plenty of notice and you didn't have to stay for the whole thing. The teamates are really important people to them and it's like planning a party for people you care about and having people just ditch without calling. It feels sucky.

In my personal opinion, Tami and Lisa have really done a lot for this team. When Lisa and I were captains, we had no clue what we were doing. Consequently, we did very little and the school gave us almost NO money and very little respect. These two girls have really got things together and FINALLY our team is really being recognized and respected in the college. We were given a larger budget and seriously, sorry for sounding redundant but we finally seem to be gaining the respect that we deserve which is VERY important for the future of this team. Captains do a TON of work, I know, I was there (even though Lisa and I were newbies at it and weren't sure what to do) and not only that but Captains are in charge of organizing everything, taking phone calls at all hours and basically running around like chickens without heads.They are the leaders of our organization. I don't only say this because I love and am friends with Lisa and Tami but as I said, I was there and it was stressful while I was there and these two are putting all of themselves into it. So yeah, they may come off as "team moms" but somebody has to do it. When there wasn't strong leadership, our team fell apart. This year we have a great team with a lot of fun people. We want to keep growing and in order to do that we really need cooperation and "togetherness". Okay, enough with the lecture.

It has also come to my attention that certain things are being said about your's truly and some issues I have. I will say it right now: When I was 14 I was diagnosed with Panic attack disorder and Clinical Depression. Sometimes life gets hard, especially in very stressful situations. I am very comfortable talking about it because the more I (and people like me) talk, the less stigma is attatched to it. So please, if you have a question or concern, just ask me I'll be glad to share with you.

Now, onto the news....

All the ads were due tonight but there's a leniency period until Thursday.
No later than Thursday.
Nope.

Our horse show on March 30th will NOT be at Smoke Run Farm due to the freezing over of the ring and the fact that the horses have not been out in a month. We don't need anymore hospital visits. So, we are STILL going to have a show but the location will be announced as soon as a new barn is found.

The day before the show, March 29th, is a mandatory show-prep day. Even I will be pissed if somebody doesn't show without GOOD reason. What we'll do on that Saturday afternoon is clean the horses and their tack, set up jumps and prepare the grounds for our show. The more people we have, the faster it goes and you will be free to enjoy your Saturday.

There's no meeting next week because of Spring Break. Jen will be giving her regular lessons, those that ride with Bridget should check with her.

What a &*%$#ing Weekend Continued

...this is a continuation from the previous post, if you didn't read that one. scroll down and do that first, or read this first I don't care it's your confusion.

On Sunday The Day Of The Show, most of us got up around 5:30 AM. yay. Tami hocked so many loogs in the shower that I am amazed at the amount of phlegm (sp?) that her body can produce. We heard her hocking the phlegm, the next room probably heard it. Jen, who was next to get into the shower was all: "Oh how am I supposed to get in the shower...the phlegm!". Tami, you're a scream, I love you girl.

So we get to the show without much incident, watch the horses being schooled and whatnot.
I don't think much happened that's worth mentioning until lunch when I went outside with Lindsay to go to Subway and we found her car suck in three inches of mud. We had a hella hilarious time getting out of there. A good ten ninutes of sliding inching back and forth, stalling, mud splattering everywhere. I was laughing so hard I think I peed my pants. We had like 20 people outside watching us and when we finally got out, Linday got out of her car, bowed and said "thank you, thank you" to an applauding crowd.

After lunch and after a few classes the shit hit the fan. Lindsay was in the ring riding a really good horse and doing awesome on him when a horse across the ring started to buck. The girl on the horse fell off, caused another horse to freak out and caused Lindsay's horse to buck. Lindsay was in the up position of the canter (you know when your butt leaves the saddle for that split second) when the horse came under her, bucked and popped her off to the side. And she fell. And the ring goes deadly silent. And she doesn't move. I run across to the other side of the ring and they call for an EMT over the loudspeaker. THREE TIMES they call this guy and he WALKS over to her.

After what seemed like forever, they get her up and walking. There's Lindsay, covered in dirt, tear-stained and cracking everyone up. She's such a trooper. Jen and the EMT get her to the side of the ring and are helping her walk, with the plan that they are going to get her to the office to ice the injury when Linsday says that she can't walk anymore. They try to sit her down and she can't bend at the hip. The EMT turns to us and says "Do you think she should go to the hospital?" Um YEAH?

So they call for the ambulance and here's Lindsay still cracking jokes while our team scrambles to get her things, her car (who can drive stick?), decide who's going to drive the van since Lisa was the one aproved for it this weekend and she was going in the ambulance with Lindsay. Mayhem. Absolute Mayhem. (And Tami had to ride Lindsay's horse right after that and she did awesome but more about that later). So Liz and I get in Lindsay's car and without speeding, we beat the ambulance to the hospital.

Oh, Hospital? no, more like a triage center. There's a dude with a broken leg puking and passing out and calls of "head trauma...stat", "acute chest pains!" and little me with a severe phobia of hospitals trying not to whimper. An hour later the show is over, the van pulls up with everyone else and Lindsay is diagnosed with a bruised muscle, given codeine and crutches and sent home. Liz drives her car and follows the van.

We stop at a McDonald's where the parking lot is covered in black ice and we have a girl on crutches. And Lindsay still has such a positive attitude, albeit a little dulled by the codeine.

Needless to say the atmosphere in the van was a lot more somber going home. Until, until...Lisa pulls up to the toll booth and asks for a reciept. "How my gon' give you a receipt, you ain't give me no money!" the toll guy responded. And we all lost it. it was true Lisa, beign so tired had not handed the man any money. Mr. Toll Booth Man, you madeour day that was hysterical.

What a *&%$#ing Weekend

I think it's safe to say that this weekend was a mix of a really good time and absolute hell. I (as well as everyone else on the team) am really proud of everyone's team spirit and helpful nature. We really pulled together after the mishap and it's comforting to know that we have such a close knit team, who even through stress and confusion will stick by eachother. We survived the pothole infested drive, Lisa's temper tantrums about the van, Melissa's anxiety attacks, Jennifer's reaction to Mexican food, the monsson like rain, Lindsay's hospital visit and the general confusion that comes along with any show, especially one with an overnight stay. I hope everyone (especially Lindsay), is recovering nicely.

For those of you that missed the show I'll try to give you a rundown, or at least the best that I can remember because I think we're all a little shell-shocked...

Saturday started out with a rain that I have never seen this side of spring. By the time we got into the van we were all dripping wet, wringing water from our hair and clothes. When we were finally on our way, we hit this mother of a pothole on the highway which started out the list of the funniest quotes from the team. After our heads hit the ceiling and the coffee went flying and Lisa cursed a bit, she got real quiet and said "I feel like I'm playing Mario Cart!" With the puddles the size of small lakes, Tami said "This isn't a horseshow, it's a swim competition!". Yeah, there were a lot of laughs on the way. We also had to feel bad for Tally who was follwing behind us when we hit the Grand Canyon of potholes in her little low-rider Honda. That shit almost ended up in a million peices. The roads were chewed up and spit out, there was water everywhere, the wipers on the van sucked and the van smelled like someone's farted-out Taco Bell. But we survived and kept on trucking, excited for the show and overnight stay.

When we hit I-95, Tally calles excietedly from her cell phone and tells us to turn on Z-100 quickly, Angelina was going to make a shout-out to the team. Turns out, the girl was caller 100 and they played her snippets of 7 songs and if she could name all 7, she would win $700.00! To me these snippets sounded like someone on speed changing the channels too quickly, but the girl got four of them and won herself a T-shirt. All this is very exciting when you are trapped in a van 100 miles from nowhere in a hurricaine with Lisa cursing at all the cars and trying to hold the big bad van steady from the wind.

So we stop at a McDonald's for a pee break. What is it about women's bathroom's and filth? There were two stalls and one was taken up for an hour by someone blowing mud and the other was pissed all over. Some of us girls went into the men's bathroom only to have a little old man walk in causing everyone to belt out screams. Pretty amusing. It was also at this point that Tami made up the pee-pee song, also an Equestrian Team quote hall of fame-r:

"Pee-pee in the potty
No potty to go pee-pee
Pee-pee in my panties
My panties are all wet Oh!"

Thank you Tami. I laughed so hard at that, I even peed a little. Since your's truly was jumping around like a monkey on speed Scott said that instead of calling me Captain Pottymouth, my new name should be Kaptain Kangaroo. Scott was slso a little over-excietd at the prospect of sharing a room with 5 girls. Vanessa and Paul were smart, they got their own room. An Executive Suite. Yah. We could have fit the whole team in there, probably some horses too.

So we get to the hotel. The Holiday Inn at Yale. Don't forget the at Yale. We were hitting the big time. I don't even want to discuss checking in. What a miserable disaster. They couldn't know that we were sleeping 6 people to a room and Lord, the issues with the roll-way beds and half the team outside in the cold rain and the room-key confusion. I don't even want to go there. Moving on.

Dinner. Lisa decides that we're going Mexican because it's around the corner and we can walk so she doesn't have to drive that Hunk of Post junk van. Oh, did I mention that as soon as we got into the van that afternoon a big peice of it inside came off? The thing is so big that it cost 8 dollars just to park the thing. But remember, we're at Yale.

So I hear Mexican and I'm all "Oh, man I don't know, we're all gonna be sick". Riding and farting do not mix. Be wary of Mexican joints that you've never heard of. But we ate and it was good and some of us drank and that was good for them. I find out that half of my room is going out partying so I decide to bunk in with Jen, Bridget, Lisa and Tami. I give up my comfortable bed with Tally and push a roll-away down the hall to their room. "You and you're fucking roll-away bed!" said Bridget as I struggled to push it into the room. The roll-away bed? It was also a wee-wee bed. Yep. the whole mattress, covered in plastic so that everytime I moved I was assaulted with snap, crackle and pop. Bridget, who was over-stimulated thought that this was just the most fan-fucking-tastically funny thing she had ever seen/heard.

So Lisa takes a shower and comes out with my bra on her head. "You have a bra on your head", says Bridget. "I know", replies Lisa "I'm going to leave it on to see if Jen notices". (jen was out somewhere doing something). So Jen comes and was all "HELLO, do you KNOW you have a bra on your head?!". LOL maybe you had to be there.

After the bra fiasco, Jen gives Bridget the rider forms to fill out and is explaining how its done. Bridget, in perfect blonde fashion (even though she's not) goes "Oh, is it like a questionairre is Cosmo?" Classic.

Then the Mexican food hits. I won't even go there to protect the embarrased but let's say that yeah, Mexican was a bad, bad idea.
So Tami is out a-partying so Jen, Bridget, Lisa and I go to sleep. Well they went to sleep. Yours truly stared at the cieling for a good hour burping up taco salad, rolling over in her wee-wee bed, laughing internally at the crackling. I had nothing but sheet and a shit blanket, which we can call a pretend blanket since it offered absolutley no comfort. I turn the heat on, Lisa turned it off. I slept under the window on a roll-away wee-wee bed with a pretend blanket and no heat and gas pains from Mexican food and I just wanted my mamma.

I have no idea what went on with the rest of the rooms that night but I do know that at some club that Scott was in, people were referring to Post as a "fake college". Remembr we're at Yale where people eat ivy for breakfast. And this is in NO WAY meant as offense to the Yale Equestrian Team because they are really nice. These were just some jackholes at the club who weren't part of the Yale team. No, the Yale team rocks they've got the cutest little sweat pants that say "Harvard Kiss This" all across the hiney. Gotta love that.
Anyway, so as I said I have no clue what went on the rest of that night so if anyone would like to add some stuff feel free to leave it in the comments section or e-mail me.

Things Learned From Saturday.
1. Lisa and Tami will fight and then pee together five minutes later.
2. Never eat Mexican again. Ever. Nope. Especially at Yale
3. Please don't ever sleep on a roll-away bed.

I am in the process of making a new phone list. I need you guys to e mail me if your numbers have changed since last semester and I havent gotten your new one yet. Also if I have a number that you dont want everyone to have you must e mail me so that I dont put it on the list. For example I know Scott dosent want people calling his house so I will only put his cell number on the list. I would like this information as soon as possible so that I can put it together and hand it out at our next meeting (Tues. Feb. 18th)

Dont forget to get ads for our show program ASAP!! We have moved the date that they are due up to March 2nd because the original date was during spring break and a lot of us will not be here. ADVICE NEEDED

Yours truly, Melissa, feels that she could be a much better rider if only she could get over her fear of being run away with.
I am not afraid of falling, bucking, kicking out, etc., just getting run off with. I'd like anyone;s advice on how I can get over this phobia so I can compete in the alumni division without looking like an idiot.

Hi Everyone!

Lisa and I want to invite all of you to come out with us to JD Gates to hang out and have a couple of drinks after the meeting tomorrow night. It is 18 to get in so everyone can come. They are pretty lenient, so if you have a fake ID use it, but bring your real one just in case. It is $5 to get in.

If you guys who are riding that night want to come and you dont live on campus dont forget to bring a change of clothes. If you really want to get fancy you can bring a towel and shower stuff (dont forget sandals too) and you can shower and change at our dorm. The doors dont open till 10 so we will have time to get ready.

Here are the directions if you want to meet there

Make a right out of campus. Turn left at the light on to 107N. This road turns into Glen Cove Road. Go for about a half-mile and make a rihgt on to Bridge Street/Village Square. This turns into Schiil Street. JD Gates is on the right. Park in the parking lot across the street. The address is 100 School Street in Glen Cove.

"FYI the three shows (may be two if that one is cancelled) and regionals are mandatory for all members whether they are showing or not.

You could remind everyone about getting ads for our show program. $75 dollar minimum, but the more the better because this is our biggest fundraising oppourtunity of the semester. The money we earn is almost all profit. They should start ASAP!

Meeting Notes:

Jen mentioned that one show might be canceled so it's possible that we'll only have 2 shows this semester. Which means that they're mandatory.
Yes.They are.
March 30th is our show at Smoke Run. This is absolutley mandatory. You are only not allowed to show up if you wake up and fail to have legs.
Or something hideous like that.
The day before our show (March 29th) we also have a mandatory meeting at Smoke Run Farm...there, we will clean horses, tack and set up jumps. The more people we have, the quicker it goes so BE THERE.
Or I will smite you!

Jen also mentioned the possibility of a second lesson on Feb 6th and 13th. THIS IS ONLY FOR THOSE WHO RIDE WITH JEN. You must, however, pay $30.00 for the extra lesson. THOSE THAT RIDE WITH BRIDGET please contact her about her added lessons.

We are finally getting Post saddle pads for our shows. Yippee.

Tami's announcements:

Tami would appreciate it if everyone would quit their joking around and horseplay (har-de-har) during meetings. This will make them go MUCH faster so we can all go out and drink afterwards.

This semester, there will be a point system. Team members will acquire points by going to shows, going to lessons and participating in fund raising and community service. The member that has the most points at the end of the semster gets a nifty gift.

We asked for a budget of $6850.00. Tami believes we will only recieve half of said budget.
Bastards.
This is why we need to FUNDRAISE.
Last semester we raised $1500.00. !!!!
Tami expects more this year.
Beware the wrath of Tami.

Since we need more publicity which will equal more money, Scott and Nancy have volunteered to be our publicity people. They'll do some interesting stuff and get us famous.

We're getting a page in the YEARBOOK, says Tami. We pick up some free disposable cameras or some junk and we get a free page all to ourselves.

Yours truly, Melissa is our new team journalist. I'm going to try and get articles published in the Post Pioneer, Newsday, Gold Coast Gazette and Long Island Horse Journal.
